คัมภีร์ปัถเวทน์ เป็นคัมภีร์ที่พูดถึงคำทำนายพระสุบิน(ความฝัน)ของพระเจ้าปเสนทิโกศล ๑๖ ข้อ พระพุทธเจ้าทรงเป็นผู้พยากรณ์ ชาวพุทธจึงรู้จักกันในนาม“พุทธทำนาย” เนื้อหาของคัมภีร์นี้ อยู่ในพระไตรปิฏกคือปรากฏในพระสุตตันตปิฏก(ปัญญาสชาดก) บางทีเรียกว่าพระเจ้า ๕๐๐ ชาติก็มี เป็นเรื่องที่สอนหลักธรรมที่สำคัญหลายเรื่อง อาทิเช่น ความไม่ประมาท ความกตัญญูกตเวที ความเปลี่ยนแปลงของสรรพสิ่ง นับเป็นวรรณกรรมทางพระพุทธศาสนาที่สำคัญเรื่องหนึ่งที่เดียว
The Patthaveth is the Buddhist discourse mentioning about the 16 items of the dream prediction of King Passendikoson prophesied by Lord Buddha, well-know as “Buddha –Tamnai” to all Buddhists. Its subject matter is in the Tripitaka, Buddhist Textbook on the part of Sutra Pitaka (Panyasachataka; 500 reincarnation or rebirth stories of Lord Buddha). It says about the important doctrines of Lord Buddha such as carelessness,gratefulness and impermanence of things. It is the most interesting Buddhist literary work
