Abstract

The purpose of this paper is a study in the overview of Dan Sai Vernacular House. The discussion mainly related to architectural styles, house planning and spatial design, structure, construction technics, materials, and social context. The study methodology is survey research included house measurement from field-surveys; house owners, vernacular house builders, and local scholar interviews; and documentary source. Analysis were done by comparison and typology. The conclusions are revealed that the dynamic of Dan Sai vernacular house is conform to Esan-house. Causes of the changing are mainly from construction technology and the way of life diversity. Three Dan Sai vernacular house styles are (1) Traditional timber house (2) Stone foundation post house and (3) Contemporary timber house. Those were changed mainly in construction technology and appearance. House planning and spatial design were changed in the increasing of indoor vestibule space instead of outdoor terrace in Traditional timber house.
