The study of “Improving Ability in Writing English Sentences Using the
Dialogue Journal Approach of ENG 324 Students at Sripatum University” aims 1) to compare the
students’ ability in writing English sentences before and after using the dialogue journal activities
and 2) to study the students’ satisfactory of English learning using the dialogue journal activities.
The samples comprised of a class of 40 students enrolling in ENG 324 (Grammar and Writing
Skills) in the second semester of academic year 2009 at Sripatum University. The experiment
followed the one group pretest-posttest design. The experiment instruments consisted of lesson
plan, pre-test and post-test, dialogue journal activities and students’ satisfaction questionnaire.
The collected data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, percentage and One-sample-ttest. The results of this research were as followed:
1. The average scores of posttest were 5.68 higher than those of pretest 1.53 (out
of 10). These increased 41.50 percent. The English writing achievement of the students after
learning through using dialogue journal activities was significantly higher at the level of 0.01.
This showed that the dialogue journal writing activities had significantly improved the students’
ability of writing.
2. The students’ overall satisfactory with dialogue journal writing activities was
in the high level. The highest satisfied item belonged to “the students were satisfied with the
overall learning through dialogue journal writing activities” whereas the rest were all in the high
level.
